Universal Logarithmic Integer-Series Power Closure

Abstract

Hanna’s integer-series closure holds for every positive pointwise power.

Let K be any characteristic-zero field. Every natural sequence index and ordinary degree begins at zero. The arbitrary sequence L takes values in K. The canonical integer and rational embeddings are used; cast(K,z) denotes the integer embedding. No convergence, positivity, support restriction or normalization of L(0) is assumed. The series log(K) is the formal log(1+X), with constant zero and degree-r coefficient (-1)^(r+1)/r for r positive. Division in K is field division. The symbols mk, coeff, subst and factorial denote coefficient assembly, ordinary coefficient extraction, formal substitution and natural factorial. Substitution is legitimate because log(K) has constant coefficient zero.

The reusable column definition is q(i,n)=i!S(n,i). The public egf_q contract identifies its rational EGF with (exp(Q)-1)^i. The public subst_exp_log and subst_log_exp_sub_one contracts give exp(log(1+X))=1+X and log(exp(X))=X as full rational formal-series identities. Reconstruction takes the original integral-transform premise over any characteristic-zero field and supplies an integer sequence a with L(n)=T(a,n), including n=0. The public map_transform contract commutes the transform with the canonical rational map, and transform_T identifies the rational transform of T(a) with the series of coefficients a. The finite coefficient formula coeff_transform and the exact common-window identity T_window also apply directly to arithmetic extraction.

The existing proof consumes q in its column and finite-window identities, egf_q in egf_product_columns, subst_exp_log in subst_log_exp_sub_one, transform_product_columns and transform_T, subst_log_exp_sub_one in reconstruction, reconstruction in binary_closure and result, and map_transform and transform_T in result. For the distinct A167540 arithmetic-subsequence question, these same original contracts supply inverse coordinates, columns and field transport. HannaLogarithmicAffineClosure proves the distinct arithmetic-extraction implication through its finite affine-column polynomial and common degreewise window.

Every ordinary coefficient lies in the canonical image of the integers. The integer can vary with the degree; no sign or size bound is imposed.

sumRange(0,r,f) denotes the inclusive finite sum of f(n) for 0<=n<=r. The logarithm has zero constant coefficient, so its nth power has no coefficient at degree r when n>r. The formula includes r=0 and arbitrary rational L. It supplies the coefficient expansion for both multiplication and arithmetic extraction.

The sum uses every index from zero through r. Since q(i,n)=0 for i>n, the exact integer reconstruction T(a,n) can use any larger common window r. No congruence or truncation error is introduced. The arithmetic-extraction proof applies this with n=mt+b and r=md+b for each contributing t<=d.

Commentary.

Hanna’s same conjecture on A167138, A167139 and A167141 is one question. Integral logarithmic coefficients a reconstruct L(n) as the embedded integer sum T(a,n)=sum_(i<=n) a(i)i!S(n,i), by composing with exp(t)-1. Thus integral values of L are derived from the premise. Put q_i(n)=i!S(n,i). Its product with q_j has logarithmic generating series P_ij=sum_(s<=i) (-1)^(i-s) binomial(i,s)((1+X)^s-1)^j, an integer polynomial. This finite column identity is the factorial-scaled formal form of Boyadzhiev-Frontczak Corollary 3.1. At degree r, only n,i,j at most r contribute: q_i(n)=0 when i>n and log(K)^n has no coefficient below n. The product coefficient is therefore the finite integer sum of a(i)b(j) times coeff(r,P_ij). Binary closure and induction prove every positive power, then the canonical rational map transports the identity into the original K. In degree zero the conclusion retains L(0)^m. The natural positive exponent represents exactly the positive integers.
