QuantumMaxFlowBound

Abstract

QuantumMaxFlowBound supplies the width-three bridge max-flow proof.

Formulas retain the Lean parameter types and all hypotheses. HDiv.hDiv and HMod.hMod are displayed infix: on natural and integer carriers they mean the respective Lean integer division and remainder operations; on rational carriers division is field division. Coe.coe denotes the coercion determined by the displayed target type. Finite and dependent-pair constructors omit proof fields, which do not change their values. A dash in a match pattern is an anonymous wildcard. CoeFun.coe and CoeSort.coe retain coercions to functions and types. All dimensions use ℕ, all construction coefficients use ℚ, and max-flow uses ℂ.

Definition 1.1 (flow).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.flow (✓ std3).

Citation. Fulvio Gesmundo; Vladimir Lysikov; Vincent Steffan (2025). Quantum max-flow in the bridge graph. DOI: 10.1007/s00031-024-09863-2. URL: https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.09794v2.

Commentary.

Page 3: “Let F_{T,T′} ∈ A ⊗ B ⊗ A′ ⊗ B′ be the tensor obtained by contracting the factor W of T with the factor W* of T′; this is the tensor network state defined by T and T′ on the bridge graph.” For width three the flow matrix is the sum of three Kronecker products. Its dimensions are ad by bc. With (a,b,c,d)=(a,b,a′,b′), it is the transpose of the source flattening (A ⊗ B′)* → B ⊗ A′; transpose preserves rank.

Definition 1.2 (attainable).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.attainable (✓ std3).

Citation. Fulvio Gesmundo; Vladimir Lysikov; Vincent Steffan (2025). Quantum max-flow in the bridge graph. DOI: 10.1007/s00031-024-09863-2. URL: https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.09794v2.

Commentary.

Attainable is the set of natural ranks of the literal width-three complex flow matrices.

Definition 1.3 (QMaxFlow).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.QMaxFlow (✓ std3).

Citation. Fulvio Gesmundo; Vladimir Lysikov; Vincent Steffan (2025). Quantum max-flow in the bridge graph. DOI: 10.1007/s00031-024-09863-2. URL: https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.09794v2.

Commentary.

Page 3: “The quantum max-flow is the maximum possible value of rank(F_{T,T′}) as T and T′ vary in the respective spaces; we write”. The source then displays the maximum over T ∈ A ⊗ B ⊗ W and T′ ∈ A′ ⊗ B′ ⊗ W*. Here the attained supremum of the finite nonempty natural rank set gives that maximum.

Definition 1.4 (QMinCut).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.QMinCut (✓ std3).

Citation. Fulvio Gesmundo; Vladimir Lysikov; Vincent Steffan (2025). Quantum max-flow in the bridge graph. DOI: 10.1007/s00031-024-09863-2. URL: https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.09794v2.

Commentary.

Proposition 2.4, page 9: “Let a, b, w, a′, b′ be integers with a ≤ b, a′ ≤ b′. The quantum min-cut in the bridge graph is” followed by QMinCut = min{aa′w, ab′, a′b}. This is the ordered-case cut formula: its identification with the graph min-cut is used under a ≤ b and c ≤ d, as in claim. The Lean letters (a,b,c,d) denote (a,b,a′,b′) and the bridge width is three.

Theorem 1.5 (QMaxFlow_attained).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.QMaxFlow_attained (✓ std3). ∎

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

QMaxFlow_attained shows that two triples of complex matrices attain the quantum max-flow; CastlingDeficit.concise_maximizer applies this to obtain maximizing assignments whose stacked maps are injective.

Theorem 1.6 (rank_le_QMaxFlow).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.rank_le_QMaxFlow (✓ std3). ∎

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

The rank of every complex flow matrix is at most QMaxFlow; rational_witness_lower_bound applies this after extending rational coefficients to ℂ without changing rank.

Theorem 1.7 (QMaxFlow_le_QMinCut).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.QMaxFlow_le_QMinCut (✓ std3). ∎

Citation. Fulvio Gesmundo; Vladimir Lysikov; Vincent Steffan (2025). Quantum max-flow in the bridge graph. DOI: 10.1007/s00031-024-09863-2. URL: https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.09794v2.

Commentary.

Quantum max-flow is bounded by each of the three cut dimensions, hence by QMinCut; QuantumMaxFlowMinCut.result combines this upper bound with the constructed full-rank assignments.

Theorem 1.8 (cone_bounds).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.cone_bounds (✓ std3). ∎

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

For a positive a, the cone inequality implies b < 3*a; cone_QMinCut uses this bound to compare the inner and outer cuts, and QuantumMaxFlowMinCut.cone_descent uses it to keep the descended dimension positive.

Theorem 1.9 (cone_QMinCut).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.cone_QMinCut (✓ std3). ∎

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

For two positive dimension pairs satisfying the cone inequalities, QMinCut equals min(ad,bc); QuantumMaxFlowMinCut.result uses this identity to identify the attained outer cut with the quantum min-cut.

Definition 1.10 (RationalWitness).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.RationalWitness (✓ std3).

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

RationalWitness asserts the existence of two triples of rational matrices whose flow rank equals min(ad,bc); rationalWitness_full_rank transfers that rank to complex matrices.

Theorem 1.11 (rationalWitness_full_rank).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.rationalWitness_full_rank (✓ std3). ∎

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

A rational flow attaining the smaller outer cut implies QMaxFlow = min(ad,bc); QuantumMaxFlowMinCut.claim_of_hypotheses applies this to the base and width-two constructions.

Definition 1.12 (BaseWitness).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.BaseWitness (✓ std3).

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

BaseWitness asserts the existence of rational full-rank flows when both positive dimension pairs lie strictly between equal dimensions and ratio two; QuantumMaxFlowMinCut.claim_of_hypotheses uses this as the base case of its induction.

Definition 1.13 (Castling).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.Castling (✓ std3).

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

Castling asserts preservation of the displayed outer-cut deficit under the simultaneous width-three castling transformation; QuantumMaxFlowMinCut.full_rank_of_descent uses this identity to transfer full rank from smaller dimension pairs.

Definition 1.14 (WidthTwo).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.WidthTwo (✓ std3).

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

WidthTwo asserts the existence of rational full-rank flows for ordered positive pairs when either pair is square or the two ratios lie on opposite sides of two; QuantumMaxFlowMinCut.claim_of_hypotheses uses these cases alongside the strict base construction.

Definition 1.15 (threeSlices).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.threeSlices (✓ std3).

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

threeSlices assigns A, B and C to the three bond coordinates; typed_three_slice_flow expands the resulting contraction into three Kronecker products.

Theorem 1.16 (typed_three_slice_flow).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.typed_three_slice_flow (✓ std3). ∎

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

The contraction of the two threeSlices families is the sum of the three corresponding Kronecker products; ShiftPencilBlocks.typed_two_slice_flow sets the third slices to zero to recover the width-two pencil.

Definition 1.17 (rectId).

Formalization. D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.rectId (✓ std3).

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

rectId is the rectangular identity matrix, with entry one at equal indices and zero elsewhere; square_left and square_right use it to construct identity submatrices, and ShiftPencilBlocks.pencil uses it for the unshifted term.

Theorem 1.18 (witness_swap).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.witness_swap (✓ std3). ∎

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

Transposing both matrix triples and exchanging the tensor factors preserves full rank while swapping the two dimension pairs; ShiftPencilBlocks.different_depth_witness uses this symmetry for the reversed depth ordering.

Theorem 1.19 (widthTwo_proved).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.widthTwo_proved (✓ std3). ∎

Citation. Fulvio Gesmundo; Vladimir Lysikov; Vincent Steffan (2025). Quantum max-flow in the bridge graph. DOI: 10.1007/s00031-024-09863-2. URL: https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.09794v2.

Commentary.

Ordered positive dimension pairs in the cases specified by WidthTwo admit rational matrices attaining the outer cut, using square identities or two complementary identity submatrices; QuantumMaxFlowMinCut.claim_of_hypotheses applies these constructions in its square and mixed-ratio cases.

Theorem 1.20 (rank map algebraMap).

Proof. Machine-checked in Lean as D5/S3/Quantum/TensorNetworks/BridgeGraph/QuantumMaxFlowBound.rank_map_algebraMap (✓ std3). ∎

Source. Repository-derived.

Commentary.

Extending coefficients along a field algebra map preserves matrix rank.
