Egocentric Interface and Mentation Dynamics
How the world-for-this-Hist changes: frame, attention, naming, probe, and ledger
The World Arrives Through a Face
No one receives a landscape as a landscape-in-itself. The eye receives a field. The neck gives a direction. The body supplies a boundary. The ledger records a surface.
A traveler standing on a ridge does not swallow the valley whole. The valley becomes a view: a center, a horizon, a line of trees, a road that vanishes at the edge of sight. The valley is not denied. It is disciplined by a face turned toward it.
This is the first rule of the egocentric interface.
The observer is not a little monarch placed at the middle of the cosmos. The origin is a gauge, like putting the zero of a map at the station where the journey begins. It helps the route be read. It does not make the world orbit the station.
BEDC therefore separates two sentences that ordinary language often mixes:
⊕ "The readout is centered here." ✗ "The world is ontologically centered here."The first sentence is an interface discipline. The second is a metaphysical excess. The packet keeps the first and refuses the second.
The Viewfinder Is Not the Source
A camera does not photograph the entire mountain at once. It has a lens, a frame, a focus, a falloff of sharpness, an exposure, and a hand that decides where it points. The resulting image is not fiction. It is also not the mountain without loss.
The egocentric interface packet treats experience in the same way.
There is a source stage, but the focused history receives it through a centered frame. There is a support surface, such as a visual disk or some other finite readout field. There is a clarity kernel: the center may be sharp while the edge fades. There are attention weights: not every visible point has the same grip on continuation. There is a classifier: a blur may be read as a face, a threat, a letter, a shadow, or nothing usable. There is a ledger: what has entered the history cannot be treated as if it had never been recorded.
The result is not the bare source. It is a world-for-this-history.
That phrase should be read carefully. It does not mean private fantasy. It means the source as it has passed through this interface, this attention surface, this naming regime, this section, this probe policy, and this ledger. The difference is the difference between a harbor chart and the sea. The chart is answerable to the sea, but it is not the sea.
Shaking the Head Changes the Slice
Turn the head and the room changes.
The table does not need to move. The lamp does not need to slide. The wall does not need to breathe. Still, the frame changes. A corner comes into view. The window leaves the center. The chair that was a mass becomes a set of edges. The same source gives a different interface frame because the readout map has changed.
This is not illusion. It is projection.
A lighthouse beam crossing the same coastline writes different strips of light at different angles. A scanner passing over the same page sees different rows at different moments. A sonar cone pointed east and the same cone pointed west do not deny the sea; they expose different interface surfaces of it.
The source-fixed scan says exactly this:
⊕ The source may remain fixed while the frame changes. The important point is negative as much as positive. The change in the experienced frame does not by itself prove that the source changed. It proves that the source-to-interface projection changed, or that the classifier can now see a difference it could not see before.
The body, in this reading, is not merely an object inside the scene. It is part of the route by which the scene becomes recordable.
Attention Is a Dimmer, Not a Decoration
Attention is often treated as a spotlight. That metaphor is useful, but too dramatic. Sometimes attention is not a beam. It is a dimmer board. Every point on the interface has a gain. Some points are turned up. Some are left almost silent.
Two people may face the same table. One is looking for a lost key. The other is listening for whether the glass is trembling. The visible frame may be almost the same, yet the effective read differs. The key-shape has weight for one history. The vibration has weight for another.
The point is not psychological ornament. It is structural.
The effective read multiplies the rendered frame by a clarity kernel and an attention weight. When the weight changes at a support point where something is actually being rendered, the effective read changes. A written mark can be on the page, but if the reading apparatus gives it no weight, it does not play the same role in the next continuation.
Attention is therefore not a commentary on experience after the fact. It is one of the rows through which an interface frame becomes a world-for-this-history.
A Thought Enters Like a Seed in the Ledger
Mentation is the delicate part.
An internal event may be small: a question, a remembered face, a fear, a name, a plan, a suspicion, a wish, a private image. It may not arrive through the eye. It may not be a fresh external frame. Yet once it enters the focused history, the ledger is no longer the same.
A compass needle does not move the mountain, but it changes the route. A margin note does not rewrite the book, but it changes the next reading. A seed in a field does not instantly become a forest, but the future field is no longer described by the same packet.
That is the weak but precise claim:
⊕ A ledgered mentation event changes the world-for-this-Hist even when the external source is fixed. It changes the packet because the packet includes the ledger. It may also change attention, classifier, section, and probe policy. But it does not need to do all of that for the weak claim. A visible append already changes the record.
The strictness matters. BEDC does not say that thinking of rain makes the clouds rain. It says that thinking of rain can change the interface world: which signs are weighted, which categories are ready, which memories are called, which probes are selected, and which continuation routes become available.
Naming Changes the Door in the Same Wall
Classification is a quiet power.
Before a sound is named, it may be noise. After a name enters, the same sound may become a warning, a word, an engine, a memory, or an error. The acoustic source need not change. The classifier row changes how the record is sorted into future use.
The same is true for section choice.
A compressed interface surface can hide many source-side representatives behind one public point. A section is a licensed return into that fiber. Change the section and the same quotient point may carry a different label. The wall has not moved, but a different door has been opened in it.
This is why the packet includes the section row beside the frame, attention, classifier, probe policy, and ledger. Meaning is not exhausted by the visible quotient. Meaning can depend on which certified path returns from the public surface to a representative in the fiber.
Intention Chooses the Next Window
Action is not outcome magic.
The hand can choose a lens. It cannot command what the lens will reveal. The scientist can choose an instrument. She cannot decree the measurement record. The walker can turn toward the river. He cannot force the river to be a road.
Probe policy is the row that records this disciplined agency. A focused history can select the next admissible interface family. It can choose where to look, what to ask, what to test, which coupling to attempt. But the next record still depends on the selected interface, the source, and the outcome kernel.
This preserves intention without making intention a hidden sovereign. Intention chooses a window. The world still answers through the window.
The Safe Compression
The dossier can now be compressed without losing the boundary:
⊕ External source fixed; interface world changed.or more sharply:
\[ \Delta X=0, \qquad \Delta W\neq 0. \]
This is not a slogan about mind over matter. It is a ledger statement. The source component may remain fixed while one visible row of \(W_h=(F_h,A_h,K_h,\sigma_h,\Pi_h,\Lambda_h)\) changes.
The world-for-this-history is like a cockpit display. Outside pressure, altitude, direction, sensor field, warning lights, pilot attention, navigation plan, and recorded events all matter. A warning light does not move the mountain outside the aircraft. Yet once it lights, the world the pilot must fly in has changed.
That is the philosophical force of the packet: subjectivity is neither a private mist nor a second substance. It is a disciplined interface configuration of a finite history.
Strict Mathematical Form
For a focused history \(h\), define an egocentric interface packet \[ \mathcal E_h = (h,C_h,D,a,A_h,K_h,\sigma_h,\Pi_h,\Lambda_h,\mathsf{Aud}_h). \]
Here \(h\in\Hist\) is the focused generated history, \(C_h=(o_h,\Omega_h,B_h)\) is the centered frame row, \(D\) is the displayed interface support, \(a:D\to[0,1]\) is the clarity kernel, \(A_h:D\to\mathbb R_{\ge0}\) is the attention-weight row, \(K_h\) is the classifier or naming surface, \(\sigma_h\) is a licensed section row, \(\Pi_h\) is the probe policy, \(\Lambda_h\) is the local ledger, and \(\mathsf{Aud}_h\) is the audit row.
The centering convention is \[ o_h=0. \] This is a gauge row, not an ontological centering of the source.
Let \(X_t\) be a displayed source stage and let \[ \operatorname{Render}_{C_h}(X_t):D\to Y \] be the centered readout. Define the interface frame \[ F_h=V_h(X_t), \qquad F_h(u)= \bigl(a(u),\operatorname{Render}_{C_h}(X_t)(u)\bigr). \]
When scalar multiplication is displayed, define the effective attended read \[ F_h^{\mathrm{eff}}(u) = a(u)A_h(u)\operatorname{Render}_{C_h}(X_t)(u). \]
Define the world-for-this-\(\Hist\): \[ W_h=(F_h,A_h,K_h,\sigma_h,\Pi_h,\Lambda_h). \]
Experience enters the focused history as an interface frame: \[ h_{t+1}=\Cont(h_t,F_{h_t}). \]
A source-fixed scan is a transition satisfying \[ X_{t+1}=X_t, \qquad C_{h'}=g\cdot C_h. \]
If there exists \(u\in D\) such that \[ a(u)>0 \] and \[ \operatorname{Render}_{C_{h'}}(X_t)(u) \not\sim_Y \operatorname{Render}_{C_h}(X_t)(u), \] then \[ F_{h'}\not\sim F_h. \]
Thus a source-fixed scan may satisfy \[ \Delta X=0, \qquad \Delta F\neq 0. \]
A mentation event is an internal record \[ n\in\mathcal M_h \] with \[ h'=\Cont(h,n). \]
Its packet update is \[ \mathcal U_n:W_h\to W_{h'} \] with \[ \mathcal U_n(F_h,A_h,K_h,\sigma_h,\Pi_h,\Lambda_h) = (F_h,A_{h'},K_{h'},\sigma_{h'},\Pi_{h'}, \operatorname{append}(\Lambda_h,n)). \]
If \(n\) is not already present at the displayed endpoint of \(\Lambda_h\) and append is visible at the active ledger classifier, then \[ \Lambda_{h'}=\operatorname{append}(\Lambda_h,n) \Longrightarrow W_{h'}\neq W_h, \] even when \[ X_{t+1}=X_t. \]
If \[ F_{h'}=F_h, \] but for some \(u\in D\) \[ a(u)\operatorname{Render}_{C_h}(X_t)(u)\neq 0 \quad\text{and}\quad A_{h'}(u)\neq A_h(u), \] then \[ F_{h'}^{\mathrm{eff}}(u)\neq F_h^{\mathrm{eff}}(u). \]
Let \(Q_h\) be the compressed interface surface and let \(\sigma_h,\sigma_{h'}:Q_h\to X\) be displayed licensed sections. If a label row \(L:X\to\{0,1\}\) satisfies \[ L(\sigma_h(q))\neq L(\sigma_{h'}(q)), \] then \[ L_{\sigma_h}(q)\neq L_{\sigma_{h'}}(q), \] where \[ L_\sigma(q)=L(\sigma(q)). \]
For a displayed action row \(a\), if \[ \Pi_h(h,a)=I, \qquad \Pi_{h'}(h',a)=I', \qquad I\not\sim I', \] then the next admissible probe interface differs. This is probe-interface selection, not outcome selection by fiat.
The compressed theorem is: \[ \begin{gathered} \mathsf{Experience}(h)=F_h,\\ \mathsf{Scan}(X\ \mathrm{fixed})\Longrightarrow \Delta F\ \mathrm{may\ occur},\\ \mathsf{MentationAppend}(n)\Longrightarrow \Delta W,\\ \Delta A\Longrightarrow \Delta F^{\mathrm{eff}},\\ \Delta\sigma\Longrightarrow \Delta L_\sigma,\\ \Delta\Pi\Longrightarrow \Delta I_{\mathrm{future}}. \end{gathered} \]
The admissible boundary statement is \[ \Delta X=0 \quad\text{and}\quad \Delta W\neq 0, \] not \[ \mathsf{Mentation}\Longrightarrow \Delta X. \]
